On the road with Timothy Liles...

I just had the great pleasure of meeting with an up-and-coming designer from New England, Timothy Liles. He has already received much acclaim while working as a footwear designer for the beloved brand Converse, collaborating with them on a "Shoe String Settee" that is pure genius. He also creates Crayon Rings in his kitchen....how cool is that??

His current work is a collection called “New New England,” which he describes as "a modern set influenced by traditional American craft aimed at connecting consumers with the source of their products, bringing maker and user closer together." The pieces are connected to the past in craftsmanship while definitely designed with a modern aesthetic.

Right now he is touring the country in a renovated conversion van, showing his collection along the way. By the way, how much do you love the tour blog, "Vanpire Weekend"?

Here's a few photos of the collection, which is also being featured at NYC's new hip hotel, the Ace Hotel:

Kartell chairs in action....

Posted recently on the awesome blog "We Heart: Your Essential Lifestyle Guide" was a new restaurant and bar in Melbourne, Australia called "Gingerboy". In this amazing space the design team at Elenberg-Fraser used the Kartell Victoria Ghost Chairs and Charles Ghost Bar Stools. Their simple design and translucent colors are the perfect complement to the dynamic materials used in the space.

Come by Threshold to take a look at these great chairs and stools in person....

EAST tour and SOL open house

Make plans either this weekend or next to take part in EAST, the annual East Austin Studio Tour. Artists and craftsmen all over Austin's east side open their studios to the public, galleries have special events and parties and even architects and builders host open houses. It's truly a great showcase of what talent lies in the wonderfully funky east side of the city.

Threshold is teaming up with two of our wonderful furniture designers we represent in our showroom as part of EAST. First, the talented Michael Yates is teaming up with three other artists for a group show at the amazing Dragonfly House. We're going to add a few small furniture pieces and accessories to accentuate Michael's beautiful work.

Our other collaboration for EAST is with our favorite vintage furniture makeover guru Veronica Koltuniak of Verokolt. As part of the tour she decorated (using pieces from Threshold) one of the homes at the highly-anticipated Sol, the newest development by KRDB. Chris Krager's team is the incredible design/build firm that pioneered the trend in affordable, green, modern living in Austin. Come by the open house during the tour to see what all the buzz is about. Come for the architecture, stay to see our incredible furniture!
